Introduction

Make Your Interfaces Easy-to-Understand and Engage

Do your user interfaces and portals look like a programmer designed them? Is your website filled with written content and stock photos? Are you challenged to display your dynamic database in a compelling and intuitive way. Well the Frame Concepts information design and visualization craft can help you. While the visualizations exist in more of a technical domain the same core communication problem persists – how to get humans to understand and engage with the right course of action when viewing the interface.

Business Purpose

Multiple Uses

The business purposes are as broad as the interface uses themselves. Some of the patterns we have noticed are:

  • Making Complex Data Intuitive – the visual real estate is limited by the screen dimensions themselves, the user wants to find key information and know how to act quickly.
  • Portal Engagement – bring counter-parties to the online table means that they have to quickly find the right fit on the opposite side of the exchange – visualization is key.
  • Eliminating Custom Client Data Presentations – you want to communicate value in your client quarterly check-ins but it means a month of busy work assimilating data and then manipulating an awkward PowerPoint or Excel sheet chart that the client never really gets. With a dynamic visualization connected with an xml connection to your database, Frame Concepts can enable you to dynamically display key metrics in an intuitive and automated fashion and enable you to focus on consulting and not production.
  • Up the Engagement Factor – Data-driven applications with clever interactive storyboards can turn a cumbersome learning experience into an engaging and entertaining experience.
  • Websites with Just Copy and Stock Photo’s are Not Effective – Your don’t want your audience to engage you on a stock photo or a nice logo, you want them to engage with your offering and ask how you can help them. Frame Concepts Visual-Centric websites do that.

There are not a lot of new nuclear reactors being built but there are legacy reactors that require spare parts to be stock and replacement parts for obsolete items to be engineered. However the nuclear reactor clients were forced to go through reams and reams of spreadsheets to determine what the status of each part actually was. Frame Concepts developed a prototype to visualize spare parts status for both the nuclear reactor and the control room. The key was a red pulsating point that dynamically allowed the client to navigate quickly to the spare part concern and show them a visual of the actual part in question and what its status is.

Data-Driven Visual Timeline

The AICPA had a wealth of historic milestones and visual highlights including photos and videos that they wanted to showcase in an interactive timeline. Frame Concepts developed an application that could load each of the milestones and relevant visual artifacts and built an interactive timeline that allowed the finger to slide to any timeline and quickly pull up a interesting milestone with the relevant visual assets.

Acension Health had refined its service delivery model and it wanted to bring its employees and stakeholders into the conversation by interactively workshopping the optimum process delivery model for their managed healthcare services. The interaction was one of training while also soliciting feedback from staff in the field to continuously make training improvements. Frame Concepts developed an interactive training game that allowed the facilitator to play process cards in any order to interactively workshop with each class and not force a prescript order but allow best practices to emerge with a healthy discussion occurring over the digital game board.
